Back to School with Pete the Cat Books

July 3, 2013

Although I teach 6th grade, I have the pleasure of reading bedtime stories with two young children who adore Pete the Cat books.

Back to School: For back to school, Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoeswould be just the thing. In this story, Pete shows all the things he does during a school day…and of course they are all done while wearing his cool “school shoes”. This book is another big hit with my kids, especially my soon-to-be kindergartener.

Activity:
After reading this story students could tell/write a story about their school day. They could also draw a picture of themselves wearing their school shoes.

Cool Video: There is a great video of the author, Eric Litwin, and illustrator, James Dean, doing a live musical telling of Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. Click here to watch it on YouTube. My kids love watching this video. The song that goes with it (which I had never heard before) is very catchy. We sing it around our house often.

Visit my Pinterest board to find more Pete the Cat book activities.

I don't know Pete the Cat, although that may be because I've been a fifth grade teacher for so long, and I have no children of my own! I guess this is one of the characters I'll soon get to know as a 2/3 teacher! lol

Thanks for posting my blog button! 🙂
